Headmaster Chris Hayes

Dr Christopher Hayes was appointed Headmaster of St Edmund's College Canberra in January 2005. He is an Old Boy of St Patrick's College, Strathfield and began teaching with the Christian Brothers at CBC Burwood in the early 1980's. He then travelled overseas and taught in an inner London school during 1983. On his return to Australia he began teaching at St Ignatius College, Riverview NSW as a teacher of R E and History. 

He held a variety of positions such as Housemaster, Head of Faculty, Director of Boarding and Director of the Senior School.  He was the longest serving lay boarding master at College having supervised boarders for twenty consecutive years. In 2005 he submitted his doctoral thesis on Ignatian pedagogy for examination and awarded an Ed. D in 2006. Christopher also has a BA Dip Ed (Syd Uni), Grad Dip Rel Studies and M.Ed.

Chris is married to Margaret and they have four children.  He is currently on the executive of the AIS/ACT (Association of Independent Schools);  a member of the Public Affairs Committee of the Catholic Education Commission; a member of the Catholic Independent Schools Employment Relations Committee (ACT/NSW); a member of the ACT Board of Senior Secondary Studies (BSSS) and chairs the Curriculum Advisory Committee of the BSSS and is a member of the Australian Heads of Independent Schools (AHISA).
